Local monitoring belongs to the essential activities needed to ensure the quality of a trial with regard to patient safety and the validity of data. Monitoring is carried out by specially qualified staff (clinical monitors), who not only have experience in the general preparation and performance of clinical trials, but are also familiar with the specific content of the trial in question.
